Welcome to Episode 67 of Glory Days of Gold, the East Fife and Scottish football podcast recorded across two continents.
Michael, Lee, and Doug are back with their last episode of 2021 and the year ended in as disappointing a manner as you’d expect with how the last 12 months have played out down Bayview way.
A depleted injury and Covid ravaged East Fife side headed north on Boxing Day and put in a battling performance but fell to a 4-2 defeat to league leaders Cove Rangers. You couldn’t fault the performance from the team and their fighting spirit but it was always going to be a tall order to get anything from the game, even with a full squad at their disposal.
We look at the highs and the lows from the loss, but should the game have even gone ahead to begin with? And with teams throughout the SPFL being hit hard with Covid, is it time to draw up new rules for what happens when clubs have an outbreak and games are in doubt?
Looking ahead to 2022, can East Fife avoid the drop? It’s seeming more and more likely that they’re in a two horse race with Dumbarton to avoid automatic relegation and that a playoff spot may be the best they can now salvage. But stringing a winning run together could change that outlook. How possible is that and what does Stevie Crawford need to do and who does he need to bring in to make that even a possibility?
We look at all of that and a lot more, including delving into a bulging mailbag.
