Episode 16 – Glory Days of Gold (Keeping It Local with special guest Nathan ‘Fash’ Austin)
Welcome to Episode 16 of Glory Days of Gold. This week’s episode is brought to you by our sponsors Chris Gillies, John Scott Neill, and Michael Sullivan. Much thanks and appreciation goes out to you all.
Recorded across two continents, Glory Days of Gold brings you a regular dose of East Fife FC and Scottish football chat, with a splattering of interesting interviews, fun segments, and music thrown in along the way.
Our feature interview this week is with a local hero and the man who Lee has pledged to name his next child after. He started his pro career at East Fife, he’s been off on some adventures since, but he also wants to come back and finish his career down at Bayview one day, it’s striker Nathan ‘Fash’ Austin.
Fash talks about his early days playing football, his move to East Fife, the pressures of playing for his local team and what he learned there, winning a championship, his moves to Falkirk and Inverness, the deal that took him to Kelty Hearts, and how close he was to coming back to the Fife.
We also find out if he might be representing Barbados internationally one day, which teammate just loved to walk around naked, did Michael nearly get him a move to MLS, and we talk about racism in Scottish football, plus much more.
Plus there’s lots of chat about East Fife’s first preseason friendly, a 5-1 trouncing of Stenhousemuir, we talk about the Scottish national team, and bring you a little bit of audio from Johnny Russell ahead of the upcoming crunch game against Israel.
All this and we find out if the East Fife legend that is Davie Clarke fancies a chocolate digestive, Tippa Irie features in this week’s football music section Wavelength as Football Violence Awareness Month continues, Have You Heard? returns with a song from Glenrothes band Sergeant, and Who Are You? makes its return.
